‘Everybody was screaming, totally terrified’: Passengers forced to escape smoke-filled plane by jumping from the wings on to the runway after emergency landing

• Plane turns spine and some passengers forced to leap from wing

Passengers were forced to climb on to the wing and jump onto the runway after a plane gained an emergency landing once the cabin filled along with smoke.

The SkyWest Airlines flight had taken off from Tucson bound for Los Angeles, once it had to turn around.

The cabin filled along with smoke not long after take-off, and the plane headed spine to Tucson where it landed about half an hr later.

The scene was chaotic as passengers used every one of exits to escape throughout the emergency evacuation on Sunday morning.

SkyWest Airlines act as a carrier for United Airlines.

Jessica Scott told ABC: ‘It forever filled along with smoke and everybody was screaming, totally terrified.’

And Tiffany Lizares, that had her three-month-old daughter along with her on the flight, added:  ‘I was also concerned along with my daughter that I had place a blanket over her head due to the fact that for a newborn the smell was simply also strong.’

She after that describes exactly how she had to pass her baby to her husband Rylan as soon as the plane landed for a faster evacuation as he was ‘a a lot faster runner.’

He added: ‘Thankfully I ran out to the left, which had an exit ramp. The various other passengers that went to the right or over the wings had to jump from the plane, so it was regarding a 6 foot drop.’  

But airport spokeswoman Jessie Butler says no injuries were reported and every one of 73 passengers, along along with four crew members, declined medical tips from United flight 6517.

The passengers were shuttled to a terminal and rebooked on later flights. Emergency responders didn’t locate a fire. 

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the induce of the smoke.
